Delete your account

How to have your Pata account and the personal data held with it removed - and the one thing the law makes us keep.

Last updated 6 September 2026

This page is for Pata (listed on Google Play as Pata: Run & Grow Your Shop, package com.vilcom.pata), published by Vilcom Networks Ltd, Nairobi, Kenya. It covers the app and the storefront at pata.vilcom-net.co.ke, which share one account.

1. Ask us to delete your account

  1. Write to support@pata.vilcom-net.co.ke from the email address on your account, or from any address if you signed up with a phone number.
  2. Put “Delete my Pata account” in the subject line.
  3. Tell us the name and phone number on the account, and - if you are a trader - the shop name. We need these to be sure we are deleting the right account and not somebody else's livelihood.
  4. We reply to confirm it is really you, usually with a code sent to the phone number on the account.
  5. Once confirmed, the account is closed and the data below is deleted. We complete this within 30 days, and write to tell you when it is done.

There is nothing to pay, you do not have to give a reason, and closing an account does not require you to settle anything with us - Pata never holds your money.

2. What is deleted, and what is kept

Most of it goes. Two things stay, and both are stated in the Privacy Policy before you sign up:

WhatDeleted or keptWhen
Your name, phone number, email and passwordDeletedWithin 30 days of confirmation
Your shop profile, photos, description and map pinDeletedWithin 30 days - the storefront comes down at once
Your stock list, customer book and loyalty balancesDeletedWithin 30 days of confirmation
Your credit score and lender statementsDeletedWithin 30 days of confirmation
Saved items, followed shops, browsing and reservation historyDeletedWithin 30 days of confirmation
Payout details - Till, Paybill, Pochi, Airtel or bank numbersDeletedWithin 30 days of confirmation
Sign-in logs (times, device, IP address)DeletedWithin 30 days, or 12 months at the latest
Sales records, receipts and eTIMS filings for a trading shopKept7 years, because Kenyan tax law requires the record
Ratings and comments you left on a shopKeptYour name is removed so they are anonymous; the shop keeps the review

What is kept is held only as a tax and business record. It is never used to contact you, to build a profile, or for marketing, and it is deleted at the end of the period above.

3. Deleting some data without closing your account

You do not have to lose the account to remove something from it. Under sections 26 and 40 of the Data Protection Act 2019 you can ask us to erase or correct particular data, and a good deal of it you can change yourself:

  • Your profile, shop details, photos and map pin - edit or clear them in the app at any time.
  • Stock items, expenses, customers and promotions - delete them individually as you go.
  • Marketing messages - turn them off in your preferences without affecting anything else.
  • Anything else - write to support@pata.vilcom-net.co.ke saying what you want removed. Same 30 days, same confirmation step.

4. If you run a branch

A branch login belongs to the main shop that created it. Ask the shop owner to close the branch, or write to us and we will contact them. The branch's sales and stock records stay with the business as its own trading records.

5. If we get it wrong

Write to us first - we answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Kenya.
